Naomi Hewlings

DBT Turning Point Supervisor / DBT Turning Point Therapist, Clinical Growth Specialist- Reading, PA

Hey there! I’m Naomi Hewlings, my pronouns are she/her, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with Sanare. I went to Kutztown University to obtain my master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling. Several years later I obtained my license in the state of Pennsylvania. Throughout my time as a counselor, I have come across many different types of therapy, and one day I was brought into the world of Dialectical Behavior Therapy, or DBT. Since starting with Sanare I have worked in offering DBT to my clients. Currently I am one Sanare’s DBT therapists, and I am the DBT program supervisor.

You may be wondering, what do I do as a supervisor? Simply put, I support my team. Just like how it is important that you have a therapist who can support you when you’re working through your healing journey, it’s also important that your therapist is supported as they walk with you on that journey. By working with a supervisor and a team, we as therapists are able to ensure that we are offering you the best services and care that we can!

Being a therapist is only one part of me, so who am I actually? Well, I’m a person who loves her cat, loves spending time with that cat, sitting on my couch, reading a Stephan King book in my ripped jeans my oversized t-shirt and my vans. If I’m not at home with my cat, you can often find me looking around town for any new restaurant or foodery, going to the theater to watch movies and eat popcorn, or spending time with my loved ones.

Now let’s get back to you! You may be here at the beginning of your healing journey, or somewhere along the way. Let’s talk about what you can expect from allowing Sanare on this journey with you!

Like we mentioned before, I specialize in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, or DBT. DBT is a skills-based therapy meant to provide you with a foundation of effective skills to reduce suffering and work towards a life that you want to live. We are not just here to assist you in managing your symptoms, rather we are here to help you move towards recovery so you can thrive in your own life.

In our group, you’ll find a safe, comfortable space where you can just be…you! In my group room you’ll find play dough, fidget toys, a mass amount of coloring materials, books, and you may even catch me on a day where I have my balloon animal making kit. You are welcome to arrive to session as you are and make yourself comfortable in the space that you have.

Throughout DBT you’ll gain an understanding of how to tolerate and become accepting of the present moment, how to navigate difficult social situations and relationships, how to survive crisis and prevent distress, and how to increase your tolerance of your own emotions. I have a strong belief that there is no one way to do any one thing. Remember you are your own best expert, and we’ll be working together to make therapy work for you, not the other way around.
