Trainings for professionals

They’re showing up. And we know you are, too.

We don’t believe in “one-size-fits-all” therapy—and we don’t teach it either. Our CE trainings are built for clinicians, counselors, and therapists who want to go deeper, learn something real, and show up better for the people who count on them.

When Legal, Ethical, and Political Concerns Collide

Interactive workshop on navigating political, ethical, and legal dilemmas (e.g abortion, gun safety) using practical decision-making models.

These are uncertain and challenging times. The COVID-19 pandemic, racial tensions, climate change, and political turmoil affect psychologists and our clients. This highly interactive workshop invites participants to consider ethical dilemmas raised by potential conflicts between political, ethical, and legal issues (e.g., abortion, gun safety). Discussion will focus on practice strategies for responding to these difficult issues. This workshop will also involve the participants in the application of ethical decision-making, and participants are invited to discuss their own ethical dilemmas.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:

  1. Recognize typical ways of perceiving political issues.
  2. Develop a strategy for responding to contentious issues using psychology’s overarching ethical values.
  3. Identify strategies for considering how to handle potential conflicts between legal and ethical issues.

Training Benefits

3 NBCC credits

Training can be applied toward required ethics hours for licensure.

  • Confidence handling charged clinical topics
Training directly addresses how to respond to sensitive and polarizing issues (e.g., abortion, gun safety, sociopolitical stressors) in a way that is clinically grounded, ethical, and professionally defensible.
  • Practical frameworks, not abstract ethicsClinicians are taught concrete decision-making models they can apply in real time, especially when there is no clear “right” answer and multiple systems (client needs, law, ethics, organization) are involved.

Improved clinical judgment under pressureThrough case discussion and application exercises, participants build the ability to slow down, think critically, and make sound decisions in emotionally charged or ambiguous situations common in IOP and PHP work.

Stronger boundary-setting and risk managementTraining helps clinicians identify where ethical responsibility ends and legal obligation begins, reducing uncertainty, burnout, and liability-related anxiety.

Increased self-awareness around bias and perceptionParticipants learn to recognize how personal beliefs, political views, and emotional reactions can unconsciously influence clinical judgment—and how to manage that impact professionally.
