Sophie Phillips , Mental Health Counselor
Sophie Phillips (She/They) is a master’s level clinician with four years of experience including peer counseling for first year college students and transfer students, support services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and individual and group work with adolescents at PHP, and IOP levels of care. They graduated from West Chester University with a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
They are passionate about working with adolescents as well as within the LGBTQ+ community, especially as an educator and advocate. They believe in centering the client through recognizing their unique strengths, giving them opportunities to exercise their agency throughout the treatment process, and learning from them as the expert in their own experience. Sophie emphasizes the importance of acceptance and compassion regardless of where the client is at on their journey, and with that a willingness to meet the client where they are in order to make treatment an accessible and safe experience. They employ DBT, ACT, and CBT techniques in order to offer tools for clients to use in managing issues they are struggling with while navigating their relationship with the systems they exist within. Sophie also regularly incorporates opportunities for alternative forms of expression that center clients’ hobbies and passions whether that be through media they enjoy, physical embodiment, or creative expression through art, writing, or music. They recognize the many ways people express and understand themselves and their emotions, and the importance of all different kinds of communication.
While not at work they enjoy spending time with their cats, and engaging in their creative hobbies including sewing, drawing, dance, and choreography.
