Sophia Fokas, Mental Health Counselor
Sophia Fokas is a master’s level clinician who graduated with her degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from West Chester University in Pennsylvania. Before graduate school, Sophia studied psychology at Temple University with minors in criminal justice and Spanish while also working as a research assistant studying the developmental impacts of the juvenile justice system. Through this experience, Sophia was inspired to grow as a trauma informed clinician as she observed first-hand the ways in which early traumas impacted individual experience. Sophia is now an EMDR certified clinician and led a trauma IOP in King of Prussia, PA prior to her move to Raleigh, NC.
Sophia has experience working with a variety of individuals ages 14 and up in both group and individual settings. She believes that each individual is unique, and therefore utilizes various therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) in order to meet the specific needs of each client. Sophia also takes a wellness approach to therapy, believing that all individuals have the necessary resources to thrive within. In working together, Sophia is committed to providing her client’s a safe space for self-exploration to help utilize these resources and reach their desired goals.
Outside of work, Sophia enjoys spending time outdoors, reading a good mystery novel, and enjoying her favorite drink, coffee! She also loves travelling locally and abroad to explore new places and cuisines.
