Trauma-Focused Turning Point Program Therapist

Do you ever feel like you just don't know what to do or where to turn during hard times? Do you ever feel alone, like you have no source of support? Well, in group with me and others like you, you'll learn skills for working through difficult times, such as EMDR resourcing skills—just a fancy way of saying coping skills from a trauma-informed perspective—and strength-building skills to build up your sense of self.

You'll also learn skills for preventing relapse. This could be relapse from drugs or alcohol, or relapse from trauma and mental health symptoms. You'll gain practical skills and receive feedback from others in similar life stages, helping you better manage the aftereffects of trauma, such as flashbacks or nightmares, or stay in sustained sobriety if you're working through substance use issues.

The skills you'll gain will help you understand yourself and others more and feel less alone in your life journey.

I'm Liz, a licensed associate counselor of mental health and certified trauma professional, which basically means I'm a therapist specializing in trauma. I specialize in therapeutic modalities like EMDR for trauma, which uses eye movements to restimulate brain functions and help reduce trauma symptoms. I also use other therapeutic approaches, such as CBT, DBT, and motivational interviewing, to help those with substance abuse backgrounds prevent relapse through skills like reframing thoughts and learning mindfulness.

I also like to bring music into therapy. I play guitar myself and use it in group to connect with you in a different approach to healing. Your healing journey doesn't always have to be difficult. In my group, we often connect over things like music, a love of animals, and the different hobbies we all enjoy.

I became dedicated to this kind of work because of my own experiences and what I've learned through these types of skills. My group is unique because we not only grow together, but we also laugh, cry, and enjoy life and healing together in a safe space, often filled with music.

I know healing can be difficult, but you don't have to do it alone. I and others, very similar to you, are here for you when you need us—to support you, lift you up, and encourage you. I can't wait to meet you.
