Erin Matthews, Master's in Clinical Counseling
Erin Matthews recently graduated with her master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from West Chester University. Erin’s practicum and internship experiences were both completed at Sanare Today. Erin feels she received a rich and diverse example of the amazing benefit that group therapy can provide its members and how to develop a healthy therapeutic relationship that fosters growth and change. Erin’s primary therapeutic orientations include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), with the focus of helping clients to identify their values and learn to act in ways that move them closer to these values to lead a more fulfilling life. Erin has a warm and down-to-earth style, using humor, sincerity, and creativity to build relationships with clients.
Erin has enjoyed working with clients in a wide range of ages in the group setting as well as individually. Erin will be starting Sanare Today’s second Child/Tween IOP group in early 2021. The focus of this group will be helping young group members gain a better understanding of their emotions and how to deal with them more effectively, learn how to advocate for themselves to create healthy boundaries, and improve communication with family and friends. Being a parent herself, Erin understands how relationships with our children can teeter from feeling rewarding and fulfilling to painful and isolating, and that it is equally as hard and confusing to be a child trying to navigate these relationships and the world.
In her spare time Erin enjoys spending time with her husband and their three children, walking her dogs, exercising, organizing, reading, decorating, dancing, singing, and helping others. Helping others as a profession is an example of Erin following her values in order to live a meaningful and fulfilling life, and she hopes to help clients do the same.
